It is in remembrance of 13 people shot by Bengal Police, during a rally by Y-Congress, while demanding Voter's Identity Card to be made sole required document for voting. Now a day’s, lakhs of men come from rural & urban areas to be a part of Martyr's Day Rally, do they all know what for this Martyr's Day Rally? Who were those persons died on that day? Apart from these 13 more than 200 youths injured. But till today, this is not clear that what influenced these youths & many others to be a part of the dramatic movement in demand of Voter Photo-ID cards to be made necessary for free and fair polling. Their demand was an Election Commission’s issue, not State Govt.’s issue at all. Later on, whole India got Voter Card with photo-id in Election and credit goes to Election Commission. Why it was required to make a movement against State Govt. at all?
