CM inaugurates two new Police commissionerates
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced the government’s plan to turn Bidhannagar Municipality into a municipal corporation after bringing a few more areas under its jurisdiction.
Inaugurating the two new police commissionerates of Bidhannagar and Barrackpore in Lake Town on Friday evening,the chief minister said a policy decision has been taken for that which will take some time to materialize.The top brass of the police and government administration were present on the occasion when Rajeev Kumar and Sanjoy Mukherjee took over as the commissioners of Bidhannagar and Barrackpore respectively.
Mamata said there were also plans to set up another police commissionerate on the Hooghly side comprising Chandernagore and its surroundings.”Within eight months of coming to power,we have set up four new police commissionerates and will set up two more in Siliguri and Haldia.A new set of 500 policemen is being appointed in each of the four new police commissionerates in Howrah,Asansol-Durgapur and now in Bidhannagar and Barrackpore.We have set up 66 new police stations and an all woman police station is coming up in Asansol.In Jangalmahal,10,000 policemen are being recruited,”she said.Fifteen mobile police vans will be appointed in Bidhannagar police commissionerate area.
She encouraged the men in uniform to be rough and tough to tackle serious crimes.
At the programme,the chief minister felicitated distinguished guests like singer Dwijen Mukherjee,novelist Saktipada Rajguru,footballer PK Banerjee,actor Manoj Mitra,grandmaster Dibyendu Barua and a host of other eminent personalities.At Mamata’s request,singer Pratul Mukherjee mesmerised the audience with a few lines of “Ami Banglar Gan Gai”.Singer Saikat Mitra and Antara Chowdhury who were also felicitated,performed as well.
