Mamta Banerjee Begins the GREEN REVOLUTION in W.B

She is playing the same role similar to that of Anil Kapoor's in the movie Nayak. Like Anil, she is giving surprise visits and trying to sooth all the government offices through her positive approach. Simple, down to earth, unpretensious, clear cut and austere are the words best to describe the new chief minister of west Bengal. This is no other than Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee started working from the time when she joined the throne of West Bengal. Amidst all speculation of being an opportunistic, this lady has proved them wrong. The performance of first week as a CM is also enough to prove that she is not going to let down the twenty percent population of the state who played a credible role in her win.
Hajj Pilgrimage: Mamata advised the DM and officers of the concerned department to make it sure that no one gets any kind of trouble. Last year, according to Fire minister Javed Ahmed Khan, people going for Hajj faced lot of difficulties to get passport.
Urdu as Second Language: One of the unprecedented announcement Mamata made after resuming CM`s office was to show green signal for Urdu to be the second language of the state. People were demanding it since many years but ex state government did not pay heed to it.
Added the Word Madrasah with Aliah University: Aliah University is now eligible to get the status of minority institution as it has got the name "Madarsah" attached to it. Though Left front made Aliah University but did not approve the word Madarsah to be attached with the university as a result it became difficult to get recognition as a minority character. Muslims alleged that this shows the dubious nature of the earlier Government. They could have no problem with the word Madrasah but they wanted it not to get minority character. Muslim leaders of the party said that how a university can be named Madrasah as Madrasah means school. How can a Madrasah and university can be called jointly? Interestingly, Left front opposed it when they were at the throne and did not even tolerate when present Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced it. This is why, some paid so called agitators tried to misguide the community on Friday. Some students agitated near Writers Building, claiming that they are not happy with Mamata Banerjee`s decision. So they wanted to meet Mamata for just two minutes to talk over the issue but not permitted them to meet Mamata and so they came on the road to protest.
Instruction regarding Muslim Institution: Mamata said that she will take care of the Muslim institutions. It is, however, to be noted that the six Muslim institutions like Waqf Board, Madrasah Board, Hajj House, Urdu Academy, Muslim Orphanage, etc were used by Left rule as office of profit illegally. Left front leaders are allegedly involved in deceiving Muslims to fill their pocket through these minority institutions. At a rough estimate if all the Waqf properties are distributed among the Muslims of Kolkata then no Muslim will remain without food. Such is the condition of Muslim Orphanage which has seen the worst act of swindling under Ex MP Salim and company.
Special instruction regarding OBC: Mamata has given special instructions to the concerned departments to see that no candidate is troubled while applying for OBC card.
Exclusive guidance for welfare of Muslims: The new government led by Mamata Banerjee advised her officers to be in touch with Justice R. Sachar and take valuable suggestion from him to seek guidance how to work for Minorities. This initiative looked practical when her officers reached to Rajinder Sachar and invited him to visit West Bengal to which he gave his consent on coming to state in June. Sources close to her even said that she is going to implement recommendations made by Sachar committee and Ranganath Mishra report.
Mamata began her inning sedately but soon started working with a high velocity. On the day she took oath, she worked till 12.30 a. m. "Democracy has to be with the people," she said. "I saw the crowds and asked the governor's permission to walk to Writers' Buildings." This could prove dangerous to her but she risked her life just to enter the place from where she was once dragged out some 19 years back. She faced the brutal assault for going to meet the then CM.
Within hours after becoming CM, Didi broke all protocols to reach and work for the common man. In her first 48 hours as Chief Minister, the people's leader broke all protocol. She refused a bullet-proof car, declined the privilege of free passage, instructed police to halt her black Santro — No WB 02U 4397 — at traffic signals, worked in office until 12.35 am the day she was sworn in, and went on impromptu tours crisscrossing the city, sending security guards into a tizzy.
People of West Bengal witnessed the transformation of a mass leader to a competent Chief Minister. Her placid nature was seen when she invited some of the ex ministers of the state including ex Chief Minister Budhhadeb Bhattacharjee. It is perhaps the first time in West Bengal that an outgoing CM attended a swearing-in. Martyrs of Nandi gram, Netai and parents of Singur`s resident Tapsi Mullick`s parents were also invited for the ceremony
As she entered the room of her dream, she made it clear that the room be painted cream and ornamented with Tagore Paintings. One of the remarkable decisions she made on May 20, 2011 was to announce to make a plan to meet common people and listen their grievance with prior appointment. She announced that the Cabinet will meet fortnightly. No holidays on Saturday and her ministers to be at work even on Sundays if work demands
Back in her cabin, she met representatives from employee associations and trade unions, asked them to work without political bias, said she would personally hold meetings every three months. She asked MLAs not to interfere with the police administration and told the police they should arrest people irrespective of political affiliation. On Saturday evening, Banerjee walked out of office, sat on the front seat of her black Santro car, and went on a whirlwind city tour. Huddled in the backseat were Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and Firhad Hakim. Frantic, her security convoy tried to follow, but no route was predetermined. She turned where she pleased. She inspected an ongoing flyover project, the Parama Island-Park Circus flyover. "Why is work happening from only one end?" she asked Chatterjee and Hakim. "Get this started from the other end as well."
On Sunday, Banerjee worked from her Kalighat home. She asked PWD Minister Subrata Bakshi for a status report on heritage buildings and debriefed her successor Mukul Roy on railway projects.
Her ministers, MLA`s also copied the work culture made by their leader. Higher Education Minister Bratya Basu announced a committee to study senior appointments across 600 campuses, to depoliticize education and restore merit. Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick talked of opening a 24-hour control room to ensure citizens get ration cards and BPL cards within 48 hours of application. Sports Minister Madan Mitra said stadiums would be for sports only. Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee asked for a status report on all industrial projects approved and all MoUs signed by the Left government.
On hearing media reports of an inmate missing from Alipore Jail, Correctional Administration Minister Shankar Chakrabarty made a surprise midnight trip to the prison. Elsewhere, hearing media reports on food crisis in the Alipore Zoo, Forest Minister Hiten Burman dashed to the zoo. For three days, food supply had stopped because of unpaid food bills. After this incident the zoo's former deputy director had been suspended — a day before the poll verdict — on charges of financial irregularities. The forest minister immediately sanctioned funds and then proceeded on a zoo inspection. "
First and foremost decision, Mamata Banerjee made was to return the 400 acres of fertile land to the unwilling farmers in Singur. An Expert Review Committee is set up to probe the cases of political prisoners languishing in jails on false charges. A special development package for Jangal mahal, the details of which are yet to emerge. (She sidestepped the question of her government's stand on Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and troop deployment. "I will let you know," she said.) A Bango Sanskriti Utsav every two months to foster Indo-Bangladesh cultural exchange. An expert committee — Jol Dhoro, Jol Bhoro — to conserve water for irrigation, to find ways to use rainwater and flood waters constructively. A separate committee to monitor BPL cards and MGNREGA implementation. The creation of two new ministries: North Bengal Development and Inland Waterways. Sunder ban development, previously under the sports minister, will now have a separate head.
Utilities like drainage, roads, streetlights, water supply – at present under a range of acronyms — will be brought under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. This means that for all civic problems, the buck stops with Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, Mamata's close confidant.
For the development of West Bengal, the Chief Minister chose to keep nine key ministries with herself: home, agriculture, land and land reforms, health, power, information and cultural affairs, hill affairs, minority affairs and Madrasah education, personnel and administrative reforms. For all the elation about women's power, her Cabinet has only one other woman — Women and Child Development Minister Sabitri Mitra. Moreover, Banerjee's portfolio allocation has surprised many in the party.
Following the dictation of Miss Banerjee, her ministers are also working on "Do it now slogan". Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim said he would like to see the pillars of the Parama flyover by the time the NO.4 Bridge completes.
The tram tracks between Joka and Behala will be ripped off in two weeks to facilitate work for Joka –BBD Bag Metro Railway Project.
When she came on the throne she found the government finance department with zero balance but due to her compassion she was able to get some help from the Centre. She announced that the entire government employee will now get their salary on every first date of the month instead of 10th day of every month.
Remarkable things made by her was the surprise visit she gave to several hospitals This not only helped the poor people to get good treatment but also made Mamta's vision clear about the health policy of the state.
A common man as the chief minister is Mamata Banerjee's motto and it's what she is living by up till now. But there are countless problems which will need more than just a common solution and for that she has to put herself and her ministers on a race against the clock.
